Agricultural landscape is a habitat of a great number of wild plant and animals species. It also creates and influences the semi-natural habitats. Many of those species and habitats need to be protected, according to national and European Union law. Agricultural intensification has led to a loss of biodiversity and scenic landscapes, water pollution (for example by nitrates), reduced countryside access, and increased pressure on our most important wildlife areas. The objective of the course is to try finding an answer to question about the best possible way of farming for the nature protection. This becomes more and more important question in the light of Poland present political situation – the UE accession. “Agri-environmental schemes” are one of the mechanisms that stimulate farming “friendly for environment”. The ten-year experience of UE Members States will be discussed as well as possibilities of using these practices in Poland in the contexts of nature protection. As a base of discussion the introduction to animals of agricultural landscape (species, biological and ecological needs, habitat, methods of recognition etc.) will be used.
